Try this recipe. It’s been no-fail since I began using it.


2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. sugar
1/4 c.+ shortening
1/4 c. sour cream
1/2 c. beer

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a bowl. Add shortening and mix until reaching consistency of corn meal. Add sour cream and beer and mix. Grease (with shortening) medium-size cast-iron pan. Roll out biscuits on floured board or roll into a ball in floured hand and place directly into cast-iron pan. Top each biscuit with a small dollop of shortening. Bake in preheated 450°F oven until biscuits are golden brown and fluffy.
