Fall Update

Once again, I have been shirking my blogging duties. Well, folks, I’m afraid that might become a regular occurrence. Due to my hectic work schedule I am not nearly as available to write as much as I’d like. However, this does not mean that I am not focused on my love of the culinary world. On the contrary. I have found myself smack-dab in the middle of it. And what a crazy world it is indeed. While I will not divulge my newfound secrets or partake in wretched rumors, I will try to drop in and update you on the haps…especially in New York.
I last wrote on City Harvest’s Bid for Hunger, and mentioned several other New York events that have since come and gone.
As for New York Magazine’s Taste of New York, the night was beautiful. Aside from banging into your neighbor trying to grab a savory sample here a sweet nosh there, “fabulous” was the word of the evening. Being from the south, I quite enjoyed the Grits with Bacon and Shrimp from Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain. And yes, his wife, actress Stephanie March, is absolutely stunning in person.
I didn’t make it to The New York Time’s Taste of Living, but was able to attend the Chocolate Show. How could I miss out on that when I am such a raging chocoholic? I was also very fortunate to have been able to attend the Chocolate Fashion Show AND sit on the front row. Very lovely and loads of fun. Make sure you check out the new photos on all of the above.
On another note, I’m sure that most of you have heard that the Michelin Guide for New York is out. What are the results? A lot of oooh’s, aaaah’s, and what-the…s. The Michelin party was held at the Guggenheim on the Upper East Side. Nicely dressed people formed a line that led to a table with checklist-ready smiling beauties. If your name wasn’t on the list, then you were ushered back out through the revolving doors. Very exclusive. Very crowded. And with just a smidgen of tension in the air. Of course, by this time, everyone knew who received stars and how many. Some were happy, some were sad, and most seemed a bit bewildered. How can a guide so reputable in Europe have put so little honest-to-goodness research in this huge launch of a guide the culinary world has been biting their nails waiting for? It’s not fair to say it’s all a bunch of hooey since some restaurants definitely merit their stars and recognition. However, some others…ummm…just not so sure.
Anything else happening in the New York culinary scene? Well, there is always something going on. Tis the very busy season of catered events, holiday parties, gingerbread houses, and roasting chestnuts. Enjoy time with friends and family, check out all the great outings during the fall/winter season, and eat lots of pumpkin and butternut squash soup. Ummmm….
