Once upon a time, in a quaint romantique city some like to call Parreeeee, a big, kitschy Buddha was born. Everyone flocked from miles away to pay homage to this grand master that just somehow knew, even though he was only a mere statue, how to bring in the hip and happnin’ from around the world.
While ethereal lutes strummed, bongos boomed, bodies swayed to the gentle whispers of Deepak Chopra, and sushi was served, the almighty Buddha Paris kicked back in his groovin’ bar and meditated on future gathering spots. Beirut? Ahhhh…yes. Perhaps a soupçon of a café here, maybe one just over there. Hmmmmm…but wait…what about this Big Apple of which one speaks? The moment is now. Well, ok, maybe closer to April 25th-ish.
Yes! That’s right! Buddha Bar NYC will be opening soon on Little West 12th in the Meatpacking District! Whoohooo!
Fortunate enough to have recently attended a little dining extravaganza for 150 of BBNYC’s closest friends and family, I and a friend chowed down on some delicious Eastern-style grub. I cannot divulge all secrets at this time about this bamboo and glass decorated hotspot (psst…I.M. Pei’s son designed the dining hall roof). However, I will say that you MUST try the Red Curry Shrimp. A banana leaf unfolds to unveil a dish of Lemongrass Rice and Red Curry Shrimp and the most unbelievable flavors of the East. Another treat? The melt-in-your-mouth Salmon (Sake) Sashimi.
Yes…The Buddha is happy.
